Know Your Rights: Major Wage Increases for L.A. Hotel and Airport Workers
As of December 11, 2024, the Los Angeles City Council approved significant wage increases for hotel and airport workers, aiming to reach a $30/hour minimum wage by July 1, 2028.
Wage Increase Timeline
The wage increases will be implemented as follows:
$22.50/hour starting July 1, 2025
$25.00/hour starting July 1, 2026
$27.50/hour starting July 1, 2027
$30.00/hour starting July 1, 2028
These increases apply to:
Hotel workers at establishments with 60 or more guest rooms
Airport workers at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
Enhanced Healthcare Benefits
Beginning July 1, 2025, eligible workers will receive a healthcare benefit payment of $8.35/hour, up from the previous $5.95/hour. This amount will adjust annually based on healthcare cost indices.
Enforcement and Legal Recourse
If your employer fails to comply with these wage increases or healthcare benefit payments:
Provide Written Notice: Notify your employer in writing about the violation.
30-Day Cure Period: Employers have 30 days to address and rectify the issue.
Legal Action: If unresolved, you may file a civil lawsuit under the Living Wage Ordinance (LWO) or the Hotel Worker Minimum Wage Ordinance (HWMO).
